Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a prolonged and debilitating consequence following one or more terrifying and/or life-threatening experiences. I have successfully treated people who have experienced many different traumatic events, including road traffic accidents, rape, fire, burglary and workplace accidents.
Some of the typical responses to trauma include nightmares and flashbacks of the event, avoiding people and reminders of what happened, and being ‘jumpy’ and ‘on edge’. Some of the emotions that you might experience include fear, anger, guilt and shame, as well as new, negative beliefs about yourself, others and the world.
I have many years of experience in helping people work through trauma, and eliminating nightmares and flashbacks. I will be able to diagnose your symptoms, explain why the brain processes trauma in the way it does and how to overcome it, and then use proven methods to help you, including trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (tfCBT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), nightmare rehearsal therapy (NRT), and imagery rescripting (ImRs).
Together, we can make you feel safer, adopt strategies to reduce the fear and disconnectedness you may feel, and restructure your new beliefs.
